Phillip Harold Jones, MD, became the 72nd President of the LSMS in 1953. Upon his death, he created an endowment to be used for educational purposes. Today, it's known as the P. H. Jones Learning and Leadership Fund and provides grants to both individual LSMS members and/or affiliated organizations for attending, planning and/or implementing leadership programs. New ideas and approaches to leadership are encouraged.

Learn about the history of medicine in Louisiana from former LSMS Leaders in their own words. LSMS partnered with the LSU T. Harry Williams Center for Oral History to create “Voices in Medicine” an oral history of medicine in Louisiana. Hear from Donald J. Palmisano, MD, and others in their own words. Currently there are 5 interviews fully available for your enjoyment and approximately another fifty (50) waiting to be completed.

The Journal of the LSMS has been produced consistently for 181 years. Established in 1844 as the New Orleans Medical and Surgical Journal, the publication was devoted to the cultivation of medicine and the associated sciences. In 1953, the name was changed to the Journal of the Louisiana State Medical Society. Today, the Journal serves as the LSMS magazine where members and other Louisiana physician information is shared.

Our newest initiative is ready to go live! Once contributions to the effort exceed $5,000, helmets purchased by the LSMS Foundation will be made available to local medical societies for distribution to children at local community events.
